To add an item to ShopCloseBuy you will need to prepare the following information. Fields that are bolded are required.
Item Type - For each item you will need to decide whether the listing will be an Auction item, a Buy Now (shopping cart) item, a Pre-Order listing or Promotion Only listing. Different information will be required based on the type of item.
Auction Item
An Auction Item is a listing that users can bid on, with a start and end date. The user(s) with the highest bid(s) become the buyer of that item at the close of the auction.
- Item Group - Items can be (optionally) assigned to groups defined by you. Item Groups are useful for reporting on sales related to an event such as a fall sale or a Christmas Auction. They can also be used to group items into product lines such as clothing versus jewelry. Grouping items is not required but provides another way of pulling comparative reports from the system.
- Title - The title of the item that will be displayed. Ideally this should be less than 50 characters and should not include special characters.
- Retail Price - The retail price of one individual item.
- Hide Retail Price (Yes/No) - Defaults to No. This is mostly used by charities and nonprofits who may have listings where the monetary value can’t easily be quantified (e.g. Lunch with a local celebrity) or when they simply don’t want to limit the maximum possible bid since the cause is philanthropic. This approach does not work for regular auction items where people are usually looking for a deal.
- Taxable (Yes/No) - Is the item taxable? Defaults to No.
- Minimum Bid - The opening bid and the amount that a user could purchase the item for if they were the only bidder.
- Bid Increment - The amount that a user would have to increase their bid by after each successful bid. Ideally, the bid increment should be approximately 10% of retail price.
- Launch Quantity - The total quantity of items available for sale.
- Auction Format - This value is set by the system as either Open or Dutch (Dutch is used when auctioning multiple items at a time). For further information about auction formats, please see "What is an Open Auction?" or "What is a Dutch Auction?" in our Help Section.
- Time Dependent (Yes/No) - Defaults to Yes and can not be changed. Auction items are always Time Dependent. You will need to enter a Start and End Date/Time.
- Category - You can add up to 2 categories to your item. See the list of available Categories at the end of this document. Users will be able to filter by category when searching the site. If there is a category that you think should be added, let us know.
- Max Bid Quantity (0 = no restriction) - Defaults to 0. This is the maximum number of this item a user can bid on (only relevant for Dutch items).
- Item Description - A detailed description of the item that you'd like to appear on the website. There is no character limit here. The more detail here, the better. Include any restrictions, etc.
- Image - You must include at least 1 image for your item, and can include up to 6. The maximum file size is 5 MB.
- Payment Details - Can be left as the default set up in your Vendor Details or changed to suit the individual item.
- Tax Details - Can be left as the default set up in your Vendor Details or changed to suit the individual item.
- Fulfillment Details - Can be left as the default set up in your Vendor Details or changed to suit the individual item.
- PDF description - Can be left as the default set up in your Vendor Details or changed to suit the individual item.

A Pre-Order Item is a listing that is ordered by the user through ShopCloseBuy but paid for at a later date when the item is received.
